Improving Contacts with the Medical World

Arthrogryposis is not very well known among health professionals or the general public. The number of doctors who have knowledge and/or experience of AMC is low and we want to change this.

Having medical contacts is very important to a charity like TAG – it helps to raise awareness of the condition (which is still relatively rare compared to some) and enables us to support more families affected by AMC. We also see such contact as a symbiotic relationship between medics and non-medics alike, where information can be exchanged, for the benefit of all.

TAG's aim is to reach out to various people in the medical professions in order to establish new links and re-connect with old ones. We have contacted orthopaedic consultants, plastic surgeons, spinal surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and more, with the aim of creating a database of specialists in Arthrogryposis. To date we have 18 names, but we want more!

If you are a medical professional and would like to be a medical link with TAG, and wish to know more, we would love to hear from you. You can read more on our I Am A Medical Professional page, and there is also a link there to request more information.  Please do get in touch and help us forge new links with the medical world.

Similarly, we welcome personal recommendations from TAG members if you have found someone with experience of Arthrogryposis.

Scotland

In 2014 we had a very generous donation to help us breathe new life into TAG Scotland. Of the 50 previous members, we have only heard from 5 in the last 2 years and are keen to re-establish connections with as many of them as possible.

We are in the process of re-approaching a Consultant running an AMC clinic in Glasgow, which we hope can become a more convenient focal point for AMCers there as well as be a source of finding more families who could use our help.

It would be a massive advantage to members in Scotland, as well as the group in the rest of the UK, to have a local person working with us on expanding our reach and allowing members to meet each other.

If you are based in Scotland and want to enable TAG members to meet, or have ideas about events in Scotland, we need you! Drop us a line, help@arthrogryposis.co.uk, and let's see what we can achieve together.

TAG Alongs

Formerly known as Big or Little Meets, the key to our group is that we are able to get together, swap stories, chat and most importantly show to our youngest members that they are not the only person in the world with AMC and it does not have to prohibit them!

Every year we aim to put on a few events for everyone to get together, usually during Summer to take advantage of the great British weather, and always in different parts of the country to allow as many people as possible to, er, well Tag Along. (Groan! Awful joke, but it works!)

Add TAG's News Page to your web browser favourites so you can quickly check what's happening. We don't want you to miss out. We have a Facebook Page and Twitter Page too, if that's your cup of tea.
